Hiking in the White Island

After the Christmas holidays, February is the month to keep up the new year resolutions you made for 2016, don’t you think so?

Besides eating well and healthy, as we learned in my previous post, it’s also time to do some sport in Ibiza. But I’m not talking about going to the gym, no, why lock yourself into a gym gazing at a wall when you’re in a beautiful island with an almost spring weather all year round?

I’m talking about another type of sport, one that allows you to breath fresh air, to discover unusual landscapes and and to sculpt strong legs. Yes, I’m talking about hiking in Ibiza.
I have several favourite routes on the island, both South and North, today I’m going to tell you two of my favourites so you can do them too, when you come.

You might be thinking … but if you can fly, why tire yourself walking? That’s true, but there is nothing like the feeling of reaching the top of a mountain, out of breath, but oh so proud! Is there?

Es Cubells and Cala Llentrisca – South West

What I love about this route it is that you go through mountains, forests and fields, and along the coast, with a hidden cove, with no inhabitants nor tourists.

You have to start at the village of Es Cubells, where you climb up to 415m by Puig d’en Serra, then gradually descend to Cap Llentrisca. There, you are at the most south-west of the island with some amazing panoramic views of Es Vedrá and the small Es Vedranell. Then, down to Cala Llentrisca, where you skirt the south coast passing by Es Niu de s’Aguila -four beautiful rocks emerging from the sea- to return to Es Cubells.

A 12km route for those of you in great shape, with spectacular views that you simply can’t miss!

Cala Llonga and Cala Blanca – East

Besides the 182 stairs at the beginning, that you climb from Cala Llonga, this is quite an easy route. Once you reach the top, you find a splendid view of Cala Llonga, which is very quiet at this time of the year and therefore with amazing crystal clear waters.

Going North, you can go down to Cala Blanca, through a tunnel carved into the rock. It is a bit scary because once in there you won’t even see your toes if it weren’t thanks to the light of your phone, but once you reach Cala Blanca, you’ll thank me.

You finish the route coming back through Valverde, a charming village with beautiful houses hidden among the pines and palms.
These are my favourite, but there are many more routes in Ibiza. If you want to discover some more I suggest the Ibiza Travel website, the official tourism site of Ibiza.

Meanwhile, let laziness aside and get yourself out there and lose some of those love handles! ;)
