After a great Christmas surrounded by friends and family, here in the farmhouse, it’s back to routine again and gradually letting go of the festive season hangover.
Have I relished in sweets this Christmas! I swear that with so much nougat and all those delicious recipes I shared in my previous post I can hardly fly! So now, for a few weeks, I’m going to go on a purification or detox diet.
Don’t worry, purifying your body does not mean you’ve been contaminating it, it’s just that on holidays we tend to go heavier on alcohol and sweets.
Christmas dishes are usually more elaborate and contain more calories, too. That and all those celebrations and gatherings with family, friends, colleagues … all add up to gaining some extra weight and somewhat saturating our digestive system. To recover our balance we just need a good routine and some common sense.
Want to try it out with me? That way we can start the year sharing another of my little secrets.
First of all you must remember to love your body, and that means not exceeding yourself at the gym and not dieting to death! It’s enough to slowly returning to our exercise routines and to control our intake. Moderating our intake does not mean not eating it means eating several times a day but less quantity.
Start planning a weekly menu and workout. Try to not think of it as a game and not as an effort. Be patient, results come in less time than you think. Word of pixie!
Water, fruits and vegetables should be the mainstay of your diet. Eat them raw, like beets for example, or cooked, like broccoli, carrots, etc., so they retain all their as well nutrients. As for fruits, I recommend pineapple, blueberries, kiwis … since they are diuretic and they will help you eliminate liquid retention. They are also very good for the kidneys and liver, great for compensating for all that extra alcohol.
Meats and low-fat fish. Lean meats like turkey and white fish are your best choice for this detox period. Grilled or cooked, they provide energy and nutrients and are low in fat. It is also important that you reduce salt while cooking. Try cooking with spices, herbs, lemon, etc.
Finally I suggest you introduce cereals in your menus, wholegrain when possible since they increase satiety and help a good intestinal transit.
Remember to follow my advice and drink lots and lots of water and … ta-da! In a few days you’ll be like new.
So, come on! Let’s follow the detox plan together, to shed off all that sugar until next year.
A kiss from Elvah.
