Hey there! Here I am again to share with you those secrets of the island that you won’t find in guidebooks.
Winter has come, and I’m already enjoying it in my Vinya den Palerm agrotourism. The gentle autumn has given way to a colder but not less beautiful season. Besides winter brings something very special: Christmas. Time of celebration and family gatherings, what more could you want?
That’s why I’ve decided to write this post about Christmas and its gastronomy. Enjoy it!
Now that it’s time for gathering with family and friends, to share and enjoy, what better than doing it around a large table full of delicious dishes. So here I’m going to share with you a number of typical recipes of Ibiza so you can enjoy the festive season as a real local.
For starters, some good loaves of peasant bread. Since you can never have too much bread to enjoy with aioli!
Some vegetable or fish cakes and some empanades i cocarrois are always a good option to whet your appetite.
And now dear friend, prepare your bib and a spoon because the main dishes that are coming make my mouth water just thinking about them!
Fava pelada: a typical traditional winter stew. It is a very nutritive dish that is very simple to make. Its base are beans, peeled once they have been cooked, a tomato base sauce and vegetables and meats like sausage. You mash everything together to make a purée add some noodles and it’s ready to eat.
Arròs amb mongetes: a delicious rice with beans, pork ribs, sausage, spicy sausage and “pebrassos” the seasonal mushrooms.
Bullit de Peix: undoubtedly one of the star dishes of Ibiza’s cuisine: a dish of fish such as grouper or rotja, potatoes with a delicious aioli sauce. Now do you understand why it is so important to have some good peasant bread handy?
But that isn’t all. After the bullit de peix, with the same fish stock we’ve used a delicious arròs a banda is peprared.
And what better way to end the main dishes than with a tasty sofrit pagés: a stew made of chicken or lamb, sausage, spicy sausage, potatoes, toasted almonds, laurel, saffron and lard. They are all typical ingredients of the island!
If you’re still not drooling like me, I’m sure will be now that we come to the desserts.
Flaó is the king of the Ibizan desserts. This cheesecake with spearmint is a real treat.
It’s also typical to treat guests with panellets, not only the typical one with pine nuts, but with new flavours such as coconut, orange or coffee.
And to round off this feast, the typical Christmas dessert, the Salsa de Nadal. A sweet sauce usually prepared in large quantities to share with loved ones to eat with pound-cake. It is a real temptation if you have a sweet tooth.
I can’t wait for Christmas to come and to be able to enjoy all these wonderful dishes with my family. We’re already heating the stoves in Vinya den Palerm!
I wish you a happy Christmas, may all your wishes come true and may we continue to share our secrets for a long time through this blog.
A kiss, Elvah.
