5 secrets of northern Ibiza

Hey, hey! Yes, you, hello, do you read me? I hope so, because it is harder to see me.
Today I’m here to share with you five secrets about the area where I live, the northern part of Ibiza.

And why have I chosen five? Because it is the number that represents freedom, adventurous and travelling spirit, fortune, magic … oh I love this number!

Here are my 5 favourite places in the North of Ibiza.

• Es Portixol Creek

Es-Portitxol

It is the most magical and and hidden place of the island. Among rocks, pines, cliffs and almost impassable roads, there is a gem in the shape of a cove of turquoise waters.

You humans find the access slightly difficult which is why it still is a haven of calm and peace. My friends, the fishermen are the true kings of the place. They even have boathouse sheds to put the fish to dry.

You’re welcome to come to know the place but make sure you prepare both provisions and your body because the road is long.

• Na Coloms, the cave of light

Cueva-de-la-Luz1

Sometimes there are places that although beautiful and unique hide dark secrets. This is the case of Na Coloms or the cave of light as it is called now.

It is one of the most beautiful caves in the north of the island but but it also very dangerous.

For me it is like a natural bathtub, but remember, I have wings and do magic, but I’m afraid you don’t, so unless you’re a diver or a fry you’d better not do the same as me. Anyway, it is really so beautiful that it is better to view it from above, so you can admire in awe how the sunlight shines on from below the water. It’s a very, very hidden wonder.

• Pla de Corona

Pla de Corona is a very fertile circular plain of red earth full of my favourite trees Guess which? …. Yes, almond trees!
I love to come here in January and February to see the almond trees in bloom.

I’ll tell you a secret; on nights of full moon the white mantle of flowers shines like snow. ELF WORD!

• The gates of heaven or Sa Penya Esbarrada.

A cliff where I always escape to watch the sunset and greet my good friend Margaret Island (Ses Margalides). Many years already of a beautiful friendship.

Oops! With so many excursions I’m a little hungry and I’ve just remembered that right there in the same cliff, is the restaurant ‘Gates of heaven’. I always stop over to replenish strength with one of their typical Ibizan dishes. Yum, yum!

• Hippy Market of San Juan

I love Sundays at the Hippy Market of San Juan. Full of incense, leather, fruits and vegetables scents from our land…
It is definitely one of my favourite places to have a great time browsing stalls and listening to live music.

I hope you’ve taken note of my 5 secrets and ,most importantly, that you enjoy them!
